Can the layout of your room help you keep new habits?

Who started setting new habits & routines in January? It’s not for everyone, I know. However the New Year can be a time too reset, focus on new goals and how you are going to achieve them.
But did you know the way you set up your home can be crucial to keeping that habit?
@jamesclear, author of bestseller Atomic Habits, wisely tells us ‘our behaviour is not defined by the objects in our house but the relationship we have with them.’ So if you want to create a new habit that will last, you need to take your environment into consideration to avoid triggers.
One of my New Year resolutions was to spend less time staring at screens (we could all do with a bit of that right?). If this is a habit you want to break as well, it might be time to re-think your living room and how much focus is on your TV. I know it’s big and you always relax in front of your TV, but is that because it’s such a feature in the room?
As an Interior Designer and Stylist I've come across & implemented quite a few options. You could opt for a unit with doors which you can close over your TV, Neptune have some beautiful cabinets to choose from like this one https://www.neptune.com/storage/tv-cabinets/chawton-tv-cabinet/glazed/
Hidemytv.co.uk also have some really innovative solutions from mirror TV’s to flip around wall mounts https://www.hidemytv.co.uk
Another option would be to work with a carpenter to create a bespoke unit, as quite often space is an issue, so this is ideal if you have a bigger budget. If this is a bit out of your price range think about adding a darker colour to the wall behind your TV so it fades into the background and becomes less of a feature.
Remember you are trying to form a new habit that will last, so make sure the space you are creating functions but is also enjoyable. The last thing you want it to create a space you don’t want to spend time in.
Start a mood board on your computer, phone, Pinterest of styles and colours you like, to hone your ideas. If you need help, call or message me and let's see if we can make the change you need.
